Tyler E. Saffell

I first started writing poetry when I was in middle school shortly after forming my first band. You know, the kind of band that consists of a group of friends who each play a different instrument but never rehearse or write a single song together. I was supposed to be the backup guitar player but wasn't all that great, so I started writing poems to use as song lyrics. The band fell through after a couple of weeks (as you would expect) but I never lost my desire to write.

I kept writing periodically throughout middle school and high school, usually expressing how I felt toward a particular girl at the time. Poetry was the easiest way for me to express everything I felt and needed to say. But it wasn't until I was diagnosed with Type1 Diabetes at the age of 20 that I really took my poetry serious. I became motivated to write more, and it helped me cope with my diagnosis, forcing me to take a new perspective on life.

I spent my twenties and the first half of my thirties working in IT for several different companies. My main goal in life had focused to a career in IT where I could eventually start my own consultant business. I kept on writing as my career advanced, and got my first poem published in early 2019. This was one of the happiest moments in my life and showed me that I have what it takes to succeed as a writer.

I now spend my time as an IT consultant (so if you need some IT'ing you know who to ask) and children's book author who drinks too much coffee and wonders too much about the cosmos and our place in it.
